How to Make Your Clay: Method 1

The raw clay is easy to make at home with dough and a few more ingredients from your kitchen. The clay is ideal for basic modelling projects, but if not utilized on time, you have to throw it away before it grows bacteria. 

Materials:

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 cup of water
  • Your favourite food colour (optional)

Directions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients to make the clay smooth.
  2. Wrap your clay with a plastic wrapper then put it in a sealed plastic bag in the refrigerator.

How to Make Your Clay: Method 2

Materials:

  • 2 cups of salt
  • 2/3 cup of water
  • A saucepan
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Directions:

  1. Put the salt in the saucepan, add water then stir for 4 -5 minutes and overheat.
  2. Once the time lapses, remove it from the heat then add cornstarch and cold water. 
  3. Stir the mix non-stop until smooth then put it back to heat and cook until thick.
  4. Please leave it to cool then shape it as you desire.
  5. Once it dries up, use paint, markers or glitter to decorate. 
  6. Use clear acrylic spray or clear nail polish to give it a shiny finish.
  7. Use a Ziploc bag to store your unused clay.

How to Make Your Clay: Method 3

Here you use oil and tartar cream as a thickener to produce a firmer clay ideal for simple projects, and you only require a few ingredients to make it: 

Requirements:

  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 4 tablespoons tartar cream
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups of water
  • Food colour if you like

Procedure:

  1. Put together the dry ingredients and stir them together. Add in the oil, mix with water and colour if you like.
  2. Please put it on low heat and cook as you stir continuously until it thickens and pulls away from the sides of your cooking pot. 
  3. Before use, leave the clay to cool then store it in a sealed plastic container or bag. 

Method 4: Bread Clay

Required Materials:

  • 8 slices of white bread and remove the crusts
  • 8 tablespoons of white glue
  • 1/2 teaspoon of detergent or 2 teaspoons of glycerine
  • Food colour of choice
  • A paintbrush
  • Equal parts of water like the white glue
  • Acrylic paint or spray or clear nail polish(Any)

Directions:

  1. Add glue, detergent or glycerine and knead them in white bread until the mixture is no longer sticky.
  2. Separate it into small portions then use the colour to tint it 
  3. Shape your clay to the desired shape.
  4. For a smooth finish, use a brush and equal parts glue and water to the sculpture. 
  5. Please leave it to dry overnight.
  6. Use acrylic paint or spray or nail polish to seal your modelling.

How to Make Your Clay: Method 5

Here you make modelling clay by mixing cornstarch and baking soda other than flour and salt.

Requirements:

  • 1 cup of cornstarch
  • 2 cups of baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups of cold water
  • Food colour of choice

Procedure:

  1. Put all the ingredients and mix them in a pot to form dough and stir as you heat it.
  2. Once the mix is smooth, use a damp cloth to cover it and let it cool before use.
  3. Use shellac to seal the completed clay products. 

How to Make Clay: Method 6

Make clay with the same consistency as that bought in stores using the following ingredients. 

Materials:

  • 3 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon tartar cream
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups of water
  • Food colour if needed
  • Vanilla extract for scent

Directions:

  1. Boil the water then stir in the oil and add food colour with vanilla extract.
  2. Add all the dry ingredients to a bowl and stir to mix. 
  3. Now add the boiled liquid to the dry ingredients and stir slowly until you have pliable clay. 
  4. Store the clay in a sealed container at room temperature and use it when needed. 

How to make Clay: Method 7

Make clay for ornaments, jewellery or small sculptures because it hardens after baking. You can paint whatever you make to seal them off as desired. 

Requirements:

  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 1 1/2 cups water

Procedure:

  1. Put all the ingredients together, then mix them to form clay.
  2. If you are not using the clay immediately, seal it in a container and store it until when you want to use it. 
  3. Use a non-stick cookie for baking the finished pieces at 350 degrees for one hour until the clay browns around the edges. Before you paint your baked items, please cool them to cool on a rack.
